About Guía de El Cuervo de Sevilla

Wander around El Cuervo de Sevilla and discover its corners.

El Cuervo de Sevilla is a transit town, located on the N IV, which connects Madrid with Cádiz. It sits on the Roman Augusta road, being used in its origins and currently as a communication route. It is said that it is the last town in the province of Seville... or the first if we come from ancient Cádiz.

El Cuervo borders Jerez de la Frontera and the municipality of Lebrija and also has an important communications and infrastructure network. A part of its history is linked to its status as a district of the municipality of Lebrija until, at the end of the 80s, a popular movement demanded its segregation, culminating on October 6, 1992 with the declaration of Independence and the constitution of the City Council. on December 19 of that same year.

El Cuervo is surrounded by a magnificent environmental environment that must be highlighted for nature lovers. The Cubo and La Mocha trails, along with the route to the Fuente de la Higuera, connect with the largest environmental site and green lung, which we share with Jerez de la Frontera and which is none other than the La Laguna de The Tollos. Due to its extension, it is the third most important lagoon in Andalusia, and the second in width after Fuente Piedra. This lake area is a transit point for bird migration between the African and European continents. Those who wish to visit the lagoon have the Rocío de la Cámara park in their surroundings. A green space that surrounds it and that is equipped with adequate infrastructure for bird watching and hiking, cycling activities... both in the Nature Classroom and outdoors. The Hermitage is located within this park, a meeting and worship place in the celebration of the Pilgrimage in Honor of the Virgin of the Rosary, which is celebrated on the last weekend of May.

As Cultural Heritage, El Cuervo has monuments such as the Post House. It is the oldest building in the municipality, dating back to the 18th century, and is located almost on the border of the provinces of Seville and Cádiz. Its use focused on refueling the stagecoaches that made the journey between both provinces, connecting them with Madrid, becoming an obligatory stop to replenish the strength of the primitive couriers and stagecoach travelers as well as to change horses. Illustrious figures from the History of Spain have passed through it, such as Kings Charles IV and Ferdinand VII as well as the Infanta Luisa Fernanda de Borbón.

Currently, it has been transformed into the Casa de Postas Cultural Center, housing inside the Municipal Theater 'El Molino' and the Library, as well as different rooms where exhibitions, educational and cultural events and flamenco festivals are held.

Another monument is the Parish of San Juan José, a temple that dates back to 1928 and that, although it does not have a defined architectural style, follows the line of the buildings typical of the time. It is home to the Patroness of El Cuervo, Our Lady of the Rosary, whose local festival is celebrated on October 7 and coincides with the celebration of the fair.

The Cuerva municipality is part of the Camino de Santiago, through the Vía Augusta that links Cádiz with Seville and connects, in the capital of Seville, with the Silver Route in the direction of Santiago de Compostela.

Other important events in the municipality are the carnivals known for their open competition of groups and the colorful parade, in addition to enjoying Las Cruces de Mayo, the Mosto competition of great significance in the region, the Caracol and Tapa Fair or its emblematic Popular Race 'Ciudad de El Cuervo', to which is added the Laguna de los Tollos Duathlon and in which elite athletes participate.
