Physiognomy is a discipline or an art, which tries to discover the character and psychological traits of people from their facial details and their cranial structure.

Physiognomy is more than 3,000 years old —the Chinese called it Miang Xiang or the art of reading faces—, but it has been observed and practiced by numerous scientists, to the point of becoming a pseudoscience called PSYCHOMORPHOLOGY that the French psychiatrist Louis Corman (1901-1995) already described in 1937 and that today is taking up a certain momentum for its practical applications in the world of business, personnel selection or criminology.

It has always been said that the face is the mirror of the soul. Nothing more true, since there are many factors in the life of the human being that end up leaving an indelible mark on his face (a smiling individual will end up showing permanent wrinkles on both sides of the mouth), including psychological factors (a prolonged state of worry can leave permanent traces on the forehead) or genetics (such as the explosive, almost volcanic character that denotes close-knit and bushy eyebrows).

HOW DOES IT WORK

Physiognomy is based on the connection between each of the three main areas of the face and different very specific parts of the body:

1) The MENTAL or intellectual area (forehead and eyebrows), will show the intellectual capacities of the human being as it is part of the cabin that contains the brain

2) The AFFECTIVE or emotional zone (nose, eyes, ears), will be the reflection of the emotional life, because the nose, through the respiratory tract, has a direct connection with the chest, with the heart, which has always been considered the repository of the person's feelings

3) The sensitive or material zone (lips, mouth, chin), thanks to its connection from the mouth to the stomach and the belly, will be the indicator of the instinctive and material life.

Consequently, the area of ​​the face that stands out in height over the other two will inform us of the Mental, Affective or Sensitive predominance of the character of the person analyzed. However, even if one zone is predominant, the elements contained in the other zones must also be taken into consideration.

Likewise, two areas with the same height can stand out simultaneously on a face and, in the not too frequent case that the three areas are comparable or even the same, it will be about people who are especially psychically balanced.

Two important pieces of advice: take into consideration and assess a detail of a face only when it stands out clearly, and avoid drawing conclusions without at least two indicators pointing in the same direction.

By the way, a good photo allows you to accurately assess the height of the areas and the measurements of the other details —such as the distance between the eyes— in order to be able to further specify the analysis.
