The Book of Fathul Aqfal Syarah Tuhfatul Athfal is one of the tajwid books which functions as a science that studies how to sound or pronounce the letters contained in the Al-Qur'an or not.

From the definition above, it can be concluded that tajwid is one of the sciences that guides us in reading the Qur'an so that we can remove the hijaiyah letters from their places by giving them their properties.

Why is this so important? Because each letter "definitely has" a makhraj, or what is commonly referred to as a makharijul letter, which is the place where the letters come out when the letters are sounded.

The standard rule is, every time we read the Qur'an, it is obligatory to sound the letters in it according to their makhraj. So in this case, learning tajwid is mandatory.

It is obligatory because in carrying out our obligatory worship we cannot be separated from reading the Qur'an. For example in prayer. We must read Fatihah. Fatihah is a letter in the Qur'an. Meanwhile, in reading the Qur'an, we need the knowledge of recitation.

That is one reason why tajwid is obligatory to learn. The second reason may be because of a direct order from Allah. As in QS. Al-Muzamil verse 4 which reads:

"And read the Qur'an slowly or tartil (tajwid)." (QS. Al-Muzamil: 4)

Meanwhile, the third reason is the hadiths of the Prophet and the majority of scholars from the time of the Prophet until now. They agree that reading the Qur'an with the knowledge of tajwid is fardu and obligatory.
