Law No. 2019-574 of June 26, 2019 on the Penal Code. The Ivorian Penal Code has many affinities with the French Penal Code of 1810, its ancestor. The need to adapt colonial-inspired criminal law to local realities has never ceased to haunt the Ivorian legislator. The admission of the criminal liability of legal entities, the correctionalization of bigamy, the abolition of the death penalty, the recognition of international crimes or even the decriminalization of bad checks, in particular, are all innovations and specificities of the Ivorian criminal law which deserve to be brought to the attention of the public.
