About Yolka on EuroMaidan (Ukraine)

“Yolka” on Maidan in Kiev

“Yolka” on Maidan in Kiev (end of 2013 – beginning of 2014) – is one of the symbols of a protest of Ukrainian people against the bloody forces to end EuroMaidan, against closing the processes of joining the European Union and a threat of a dictatorial regime in Ukraine.

The physical force was used to get people from the Maidan under a pretense of requiring the space for a Christmas Tree. Now, an unfinished metal structure has become a foundation for displaying numerous handmade posters, Ukrainian and other countries flags, and European Union symbols.

The Russian word “Yolka” is used on purpose to make the point that Yanukovych, the President of the Ukraine, in one of his speeches, could not remember how Christmas Tree would be in Ukrainian – “Yalynka”.
