Staff care and wellbeing for emergency response - Transforming Surge Capacity

This app is a key initiative of the Mindfulness & Wellbeing component of the Transforming Surge Capacity (TSC) project.

It has been designed primarily as a data collection tool for the longitudinal research into the efficacy of mindfulness training provided to aid workers via the TSC project.

Specifically, the app is designed to collect feedback from the participants of the numerous roster trainings across Pakistan, Thailand and the Philippines, as well as participants of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course delivered in the UK and Philippines as part of the project.

For the longitudinal study, the app will be able to capture approximately 3-6 months of follow up data, using established academic and scientific measures, which are built into the app as questionnaires. These will in turn measure, perceived stress (PSS-4), wellbeing (WHO-5), and mindful awareness (FFMQ-15). The data will provide a scientific approach to the data collection, and add to the evidence-base to be collected to ascertain the impact of the mindfulness training.

This longitudinal data, collected via app, will supplement the qualitative and anecdotal data already captured post-training on the evaluation questionnaires. The first dataset is scheduled to be collected in November 2017, from the 500 participants trained via the rosters and directly in the MBSR courses.
