The study of Islamic religious knowledge basically discusses two main things. First, about what Muslims must believe in their lives. Knowledge of this then developed into "Science of 'Aqidah". Second, about what Muslims should practice in their lives. Knowledge of this then developed into "Sharia Science". Sharia science basically contains two main things.

First, regarding the material provisions that must be carried out by a Muslim in an effort to find happiness in life in this world and in the hereafter. This material device, simply put, is called "Fiqh". Second, regarding the method, effort, and provisions in producing the fiqh material. This second thing, simply put, is called "Usul Fiqh". Thus, ushul fiqh is an inseparable part of Islamic religious knowledge. Ushul fiqh is studied in line with studying fiqh and he teaches it in line with fiqh lessons.

Ushul fiqh is the main subject in Islamic religious knowledge. Therefore, it is taught in every religious education institution or madrasa at the Tsanawiyah and Aliah levels.

Even the basic basics have been given at the Ibtidaiah level.

Particularly at the level of Islamic Higher Education (IAIN and PTAIS), according to the latest curriculum stipulated by the Director General of Islamic Religious Institutional Development, Ministry of Religion, in 1995, ushul fiqh is given in all faculties and each department with a difference in the weight of credits- his. This means that every student at PTAIN or PTAIS must study ushul fiqh, although at different levels. For Tsanawiyah and Aliah levels, ushul fiqh lessons are given in a simple form. For needs at this level of education, it is relatively easy to find ushul fiqh textbooks written in Indonesian.
