All praise be to Allah Rabbul 'alamin, may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad who brought a clear message, to his family, his companions, and those who followed them until the Day of Judgment. Amma ba'du.

Many people do not know some of the laws of prostration for forgetfulness in prayer. Because they left the prostration for forgetfulness in the place that is obligatory for them, some others made the prostration for forgetfulness not at the right time, some did it before the salutation even though in circumstances where they had to do it after the salutation; others do it after the salutation even though he should do it before the salutation.

Therefore it is very important to know the laws related to prostration for forgetfulness especially for the priests who are followed by people in their prayers, who are responsible for following the correct Shari'ah in their prayers and leading the Muslims thereon. Therefore I wish to place before my brothers some laws regarding this (sujud sahwi), may Allah Ta'ala benefit His faithful servants with them.

So I asked Allah Ta'ala for help, and asked Him to guide us and grant us what is right.

Sujud sahwi is: two prostrations made by a person who is praying to make up for a mistake that occurred in his prayer due to forgetfulness (sahw).
