AbOUT THE GENERAL ELECTIONS IN SPAIN

The general elections of Spain are the elections in which the citizens of Spain elect the members of the Congress of Deputies and the Senate, the two chambers of the Cortes Generales, the body that represents the Spanish people. They are held every four years, except in the case of early elections or repeat elections.

Since the enactment of the 1978 Constitution, 14 general elections have been held in Spain. The last ones to be held are those of November 2019. The next one will be held no later than December 10, 2023.

Members of the Congress of Deputies are elected by a proportional representation system. The members of the Senate are elected by a mixed system: some are elected by a majority system and others are appointed by the parliaments of the autonomous communities.
