Lending platform for large number of trade buyers through organized Lenders.

smelending.com is India’s largest online lending marketplace which enables credit facility for large number of trade buyers (‘Buyers’) through organized Lenders (‘Lenders’) freeing up their suppliers/ manufacturers (‘Sellers’) from providing credit.

The platform was launched for Buyers of Walmart Cash and Carry format by Innoviti in 2009. It later expanded to Reliance Market.

Currently there are 24000 Buyers transacting on smelending.com availing over 400 loans per day amounting to an annual lending of Rs 400 Cr. Average loan size is Rs 22,000 with the smallest loan being Rs 5,000 and highest being Rs 2,00,000. Typical loan period is 14 days. Outstanding loan at any given point is around Rs 40 Cr.

These Buyers are mainly proprietorship and to a limited extent partnership firms. Delinquency rate is less than 0.3% due to the finely managed processes. Main reasons of delinquency are business shutting down due to natural calamities or market conditions. Since each loan is of a short duration and small ticket size, the exposure for the Lender has been limited.

The learnings from these projects have been distilled into refined processes and analytics that are now being scaled up by opening up the platform for mass enrolment.
