SenseMyStreet (Unreleased)

​​SenseMyStreet is a toolkit developed in collaboration between Open Lab and Urban Observatory at Newcastle University. The toolkit enables local people and communities to commission sensors and locate them on their streets, collecting evidence to inform or even change their communities. This project aims aims to give communities and citizens the power to gather data relevant to issues that are important to them at a very local scale.

SenseMyStreet uses a hand-held sensor, a bluetooth button, an android app and the www.sensemystreet.uk website to help record data about environmental issues. Using the button with the application enables recording the locations for the sensor readings and creation of events along the journey. These saved events can be then annotated and described in more detail after the journey using the application. Collecting environmental readings alongside people opinions of their local streets helps identify and target areas that would benefit from further monitoring from stationary environmental monitors installed by Urban Observatory.
