In the 2013 Curriculum, the subject of Indonesian History is one of the subjects that all students must study. As a mandatory lesson that must be followed by all students, this book is prepared using a more popular regressive approach. In this book, students are invited to look at history in everyday life, through observing socio-cultural conditions and a number of historical remains that can be observed by students in their surrounding environment.

From these observations, students are invited to see the phenomena around them by connecting them to a past event. With the hope that students can think pluri-causally, which sees the cause of an event as being due to many things, not mono-causal regarding an event that is currently happening.

The discussion in this book covers the VOC period up to the revolutionary period. This book presents examples of contemporary events that can be linked to past events. The presentation in this book is the minimum effort that must be made by students to achieve the expected competencies.

Students are invited to be more courageous in exploring other learning sources that can enrich the insight and knowledge available around them. For this reason, the role of teachers is needed in motivating and increasing the involvement of students to play an active role in teaching and learning tasks.
