Salmo 79

Great Psalm

1 O God, the nations have invaded your inheritance, they have desecrated your holy temple, they have reduced Jerusalem to ruins.

2 They gave the carcasses of your servants to the birds of the air for food; the flesh of your faithful to wild beasts.

3 They shed their blood like water around Jerusalem, and there is no one to bury them.

4 We are objects of mockery to our neighbors, of laughter and contempt to those around us.

5 How long, Lord? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire?

6 Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not recognize you, on the kingdoms that do not call on your name,

7 for they devoured Jacob, leaving his land in ruins.

8 Do not cover from us the iniquities of our ancestors; let your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are utterly discouraged!

9 Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive us our sins, for thy name's sake.

10 Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?” Before our eyes, show the nations your vengeance for the blood of your servants.

11 Let the groans of the prisoners come before you. By the strength of your arm preserve the condemned to death.

12 Repay our neighbors seven times as much for the insults with which they insulted you, Lord!

13 Then we your people, the sheep of your pastures, will praise you forever; from generation to generation we will sing your praises
