Salmo 51

Great Psalm

1 Have mercy on me, O God, for thy sake; in your great compassion blot out my transgressions.

2 Wash me from all my guilt and cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I myself recognize my transgressions, and my sin always pursues me.

4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what you disapprove of, so that your sentence is just, and you are right in condemning me.

5 I know that I have been a sinner since I was born; yes, since my mother conceived me.

6 I know that you desire the truth within; and in my heart you teach me wisdom.

7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and whiter than snow I will be.

8 Make me hear joy and gladness again, and the bones you crushed will exult.

9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities.

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

11 Do not cast me out of your presence nor take your Holy Spirit from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, that sinners may turn to you.

14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloody crimes, O God, God of my salvation! And my tongue will proclaim your righteousness.

15 O Lord, give words to my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.

16 You do not delight in sacrifices, nor do you delight in burnt offerings, otherwise I would bring them.

17 The sacrifices that please God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

18 By your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem.

19 Then you will delight in sincere sacrifices, in burnt offerings, and in burnt offerings; and bulls will be offered on your altar.
