The purpose of our app is to lower the barriers to activism for Kentuckians. Kentuckians will easily be able to access information about who is running for State House and State Senate in their area, and what the candidates are about (in terms of education, healthcare, labor, and wages). Users will also be able to track issues they care about that are being discussed in the Kentucky Legislature. Users will be able to read about the issues in layman's terms, and then decide to call and/or email their legislator about the issue. We want to make it easier for Kentuckians to engage in advocacy so they can take a larger part in shaping their future.

Information displayed on the “VOTING” pages of the app, for each candidate, comes from either a candidate questionnaire (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSellkFPRp67YKxxb6qkxqlW5TIMloCe4W0aRp3kPvnnFYCZww/viewform) that was given to the candidate and returned to us, or copied straight from their official website/social media pages of each candidate. If a candidate didn’t answer the questionnaire and/or an official website wasn’t found, that will be indicated on the candidate’s page. “Candidates” were determined by who filed with the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office (https://web.sos.ky.gov/elections/candidatefilings/statewide/) to appear on the 2020 ballot for a State House or State Senate race. If someone, under the voting tab, clicks “Update Registration” they will be taken to the official website (https://vrsws.sos.ky.gov/ovrweb/govoteky), run by the State of Kentucky, to change their voter registration. This is an external website that is provided as a convenience to app users.

Information displayed on the “ACTION” pages of the app are derived from the bill requests and bills that are filed with Kentucky’s Legislative Research Commission. The bills being referred to in each action will be linked to the original source (https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/record/21rs/record.html) on the Kentucky Legislative Research Commission’s website. This is an external website that is provided as a convenience to app users.

The representative and/or candidates that are displayed for a user depend on the address you enter and are matched to the State House and State Senate districts of Kentucky. Should you only give your zip code and not your full address, you may have multiple candidates and/or representatives be displayed as some House and Senate districts split zip codes. For the most accurate display of who your representative is, it is best to use your full address.
