P-Square

P-Square is a Nigerian hip-hop band from Lagos. It is composed of twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye, born on November 18, 1981.

The Okoye Twins attend school at St. Murumba College, a Catholic school in Jos. They join the school theater troupe, sing a cappella in a quartet titled MMMPP. In Smooth Criminals, which they founded in 1997, they practice break dance and mime the songs of artists like MC Hammer and Bobby Brown, and their idol Michael Jackson. Peter and Paul Okoye are studying administrative and commercial management at Abuja University1.

The brothers make themselves known in 2001 by participating in a contest of young talents. Last Nite, P-Square's first album, was released in 2003. They are named to the Kora Awards of African Music in the category "Most Promising African Band". Two years later, Square Records publishes Get Squared, whose sales reach 10 million copies and which is sacred album of the year in 2006 at the Nigerian Music Awards. In 2007, a third P-Square album, Game Over, was released, featuring 2face Idibia. In 2008, they were nominated in five categories (Best Band, Best Live Performance, Best R & B Artist, Best Clip and Artist of the Year) at the MTV Africa Music Awards2 and received the Best Group of the Year Award1.

In the early 2010s, the duo is one of the most famous artists in Africa1. At the 2010 Kora Awards, they won the "Grand Prix", a $ 1 million reward, and the prize for the best video clip3. In December 2011, they were signed by the Konvict Muzik label, founded by American-Senegalese singer Akon. The same year released their fifth album, The Invasion4. Their Shekini song, released in November 2014, is a hit with Moroccans after a member parody the song Hek lili nifi, which means "scratch my nose," a parody that made more 10 Million views in a month.

The Okoye twins are inspired by American RnB and hip-hop artists such as Eminem and R. Kelly1. Peter Okoye is responsible for their choreography. He plays guitar and drums. His twin Paul, the composer of the group, plays the piano1.
