Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of operational processes is all very well and good. Being able to assign these with specific data is even better. In order to tap into potentials for improvement, it is necessary to evaluate elements that hinder the normal workflow in their actual state. Work sampling studies provide reliable methods for doing just this. They make potentials available in quantified form. The status data can be used to deduce measures that will minimize this outlay in future.

Principle

For the layman, it is always fascinating just how precisely extrapolation, shortly after closing the polling places, can anticipate the final results – simply on the basis of random notations. Work sampling studies conducted in the field of time management work on the same basic principle of random observations. A proportionally low input ensures highly accurate data. Independently and objectively, observers note the situations as they occur at a particular moment in time. Work processes are not impaired and data is quickly collected.

Observe and note

It is possible to observe persons, machines and material at numerous different places in parallel. The preparation and tour planning processes are optimally supported by the ORTIMmulti PC software. The prepared study is subsequently transferred to the Android device. A few brief instructions are sufficient in order to commission personnel, even without special training, with task of collecting data. In doing so, you acquire ample data material, which, on completion of the observations, is transferred to the PC program, where it provides the basis for a statistically backed final statement.
