About Newborn Weight Loss

Lets pediatricians calculate newborn weight loss in the first days of life.

Standard of care for newborns includes seeing a newborn at three to four days of age. Not only do pediatricians see their patients at this time to check for jaundice but also to check for weight loss. In general, a weight loss >10% at 3-4 days of age is a sign that there's a problem with feeding. When measuring the babies weight in pounds and ounces, it often becomes difficult to calculate the per cent loss in a baby. This app simplifies the task by making the calculation for you.

Simply tap the squares to get focus as you enter the current weight in pounds and ounces and the birth rate in pounds and ounces. Press the calculation button and you are set. I use this app three to four times a week for most of my newborns

This app is an adjunct to good clinical judgment and should not be used solely to determine a newborn's need to see a specialist or if there is dehydration.
