Municipality of Lukovit

The town of Lukovit is situated on the two picturesque banks of the Zlatna Panega River.

Lukovit Municipality is located in Lovech region. The municipalities are: to the east - Ugyrchin municipality; to the west - the Red Sea and the Roman municipalities; to the south - the Municipality of Yablanitsa and Teteven, and to the north it borders with the Red Sea and Lower Danube municipalities. The area is located in Middle Subbalkan. The relief is hilly-flat, characteristic of the Danube Hilly Plain. Climatically, Lukovit municipality is located in the temperate continental climate. The climatic factors are characterized by value characteristics of the Median climate region of the Danube Plain. It is characterized by cold winter and hot summer. The territory falls into the Mussia plant area. The forest-tree vegetation consists mainly of deciduous broad-leaved forests - pure and mixed plantations of marjoram, cherry, leaves, beech, etc. The administrative center of the municipality is Lukovit. The main road Sofia - Rousse and Sofia - Pleven pass through the town. The Zlatna Panega River passes through the territory of the town. It originates from the karst spring of the same name. Lukovit municipality consists of 12 settlements with a territory of 454,225 decares, which represents 11,003% of the territory of the Lovech region. Lukovit is located at 171 m above sea level. The total territory of the municipality amounts to 454 225 dca, out of which 221 798 decares is arable land. The lands are divided into the following types: The main agricultural crops grown in the municipality are maize, wheat, barley, oats and others. Orchards of cherries and prunes are also part of the agriculture in the municipality.
