Application of Potentially Inappropriate Medications

A drug is considered to be potentially inappropriate for elderly when it presents a significant risk of adverse events in alternative evidence equal to or more effectively and with less risk to treat the same condition. The instruments for the detection of Potentially Inappropriate Medications (MPI) for seniors are essential to optimize the appropriate prescription posture and reduce negative outcomes related to pharmacotherapy in this population, such as adverse drug reactions (ADRs) preventable hospitalizations, disability and death.
