Fixed Elements are things that should be eternal without any change or substitution even though the time and place change. It is the measuring stick for the individual, the framework that guides the individual's actions and the balance that distinguishes them from others. Therefore, fixed elements are not goods that can be exchanged or bargained for.

The permanent element of a religion or sect is the element that maintains continuity, distinguishes followers from other people and it also acts to control the behavior of its adherents. Its position is the same as creeds and principles which cannot be interpreted, exchanged or changed based on changes in time, place and personality.

The element of change is also the things that may apply to changes, replacements and renewals. However, this change does not violate the principles that guarantee its continuity and its special characteristics. It is a reliable element, because changes in time and place require reliability and adjustment in addition to maintaining its fixed elements.

Allah Ta'ala established a fixed element for Islam to ensure its continuity and provided room for change to ensure its suitability at all times and places.

So the combination of fixed and changing elements is an effort to carry on without being stagnant (frozen), adjusting and renewing without distortion, maintaining authenticity without going overboard. Both are like songs and rhythms, they cannot be separated.

Both of them must exist to ensure continuity without Jumud. Without both of them going hand in hand, we will make changes and reforms which will eventually lead to deviation. This is Ta'rif fixed elements and changing elements in general. What are the fixed and changing elements of Islam?
