Even though menstruation is only experienced by women, in Islamic boarding schools, this material is still taught to men. Risalatul Mahidl The book is relatively thin, only around 30 pages. Even though it is thin, this book is very important to study, especially for women. Because women genetically have a "monthly" cycle, studying this problem has become a matter of necessity or necessity.

The first chapter in Risalatul Mahid begins with a discussion regarding the definition of menstruation l. The definition of menstruation based on fiqh terminology is blood that comes out of a woman's "anu" (muscle of the base of the uterus) because of its natural nature, meaning it is not due to illness or due to childbirth, and it comes out at the age of menstruation (i.e. at least 9 years or less 15 days 23 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds) while blood that comes out outside the menstrual period is istihadlah (disease) blood. In relation to the age of menstruation l, fiqh scholars make the parameter the qamariyah year count, not the syamsiyah or AD count. This is what must be underlined. Because the dates for the two are different, for example, if blood comes out before age, then the status is not menstrual blood but rather istihadlah (disease) blood.

In the book it is explained that 1 Qomariyah (Hijriyah) year is 354 days plus 8 hours and 48 minutes. Meanwhile, 1 year of Syamsiah (AD) is 365 days, 5 hours and 49 minutes. Meanwhile, what is said to be the menstrual age is approximately 3174 days (1 qomariyah year multiplied by 9 years – 15 days (a period that does not fit into the minimum menstruation period and the minimum holy period) = approximately 3174 more than 7 hours 2 minutes. If a woman bleeds partially at this age menstruation (has been 3174 days old) and some at an earlier age, then the blood she sheds at the age of Menstruation is considered menstruation, while previous blood is considered istihadhoh blood.

The discussion of menstruation also concerns the minimum and maximum duration of menstruation. The minimum is one day and one night (24 hours), while the maximum is 15 days. Meanwhile, the habit is 7 days, aka a week. Things like this were put forward by classical fiqh scholars with a struggle that was not easy. It is said that Imam Syafii had to research this directly by conducting a survey of the women he met.
