Matan Shafwah az-Zubad or Nadzom az-Zubad is a nadzom which contains 1088 stanzas. This Nadzom contains a summary of the Shafi'i school of law and is often referred to as the "Alfiyah of the Shafi'i Fiqh". This matan is a summary of the book az-Zubad written by Ibnul Barizi (d. 738 H) where he summarized it from ash-Syarhul Kabil written by Imam Rafi'i (d. 623 H).

It was rare that there were scholars before Ibnu Ruslan made Matan Zubad, a nazham containing the study of fiqh. Nazham is very famous, both in the world and in the archipelago, especially among the students, because they study it in Islamic boarding schools.

The full name of the owner of this nazham is Al-'Allamah Syihabuddin Abu Al-'Abbas Ahmad bin Husain bin Hasan bin 'Ali bin Yusuf bin 'Ali bin Ruslan Ar-Ramly As-Syafi'i. He was born in the city of Ramlah which is located in Palestine in 773 H. There is another opinion that says 775 H. He grew up there and memorized the Koran from the age of 10.

In his early search for knowledge, he started by studying nahwu, language, and nazham. He then studied the book Al-Hawi from Sheikh Syamsudin Al-Qalqasandy. After continuing his adventures in seeking knowledge, he arrived at a number of muhadditsin at that time.

Ibnu Ruslan talaqi (reading in front of the teacher) the book Sahih Bukhari to Sheikh Syihabuddin Abu Al-Khairi bin 'Al-'Ala, the Book of Muwattho' which was narrated by Yahya bin Bukair to Sheikh Abu Hafsh 'Umar bin Muhammad 'Ali As-Sholih, the Book of Jami ' At-Tirmidhi, Sunan Ibn Majah, As-Syifa, and Syirah Ibn Hisham to Sheikh Abu Al-'Abbas Ahmad bin 'Ali bin Sanjar Al-Mardini, and read most of the books of Bukhari to Sheikh Jalal Al-Bulqini while allowing him to issue fatwa, and studied nahwu from Sheikh Al-Ghumary as well as An-Nasawury who gave him a diploma in nahwu science.

It is said that he constantly repeated what he had learned, always made it a habit to memorize knowledge and was busy living in the Palestinian Quds. But sometimes he is also in Ramlah so that he is crowned as a leading imam in matters of fiqh, ushul fiqh, Arabic, as well as interpretation, hadith and theology of theology.

Ibn Ruslan is also famous for his obedience and diligence in worship, especially the midnight prayer. In addition, he prefers 'khumul' and zuhud, so that in the future he becomes a role model for saliks and instills the mahabbah of Allah SWT in human hearts.

Imam Ibn Ruslan studied knowledge from a number of masyaikhs in his time. Among them: the science of jurisprudence to Sheikh Syamsuddin Al-Qalqasandy, the science of faraidh and reckoning to Sheikh Syihabuddin ibn Al-Haim, the science of Sufism as well as talqin remembrance of Jalaluddin Al-Busthami, Shihabuddin bin Nashih, Muhammad Al-Qarmy, and Muhammad Al-Qadiry. Then he had a lot of meditation on Abu Hurairah bin Adz-Dzahabi, Ibn Al-'Izz, Ibn Abu Al-Majdi, Ibn Shiddiq
