Game about magic and ancient legends

Story revolves around a young magician of the city of Uruk (capital of Sumer, later Babylonia. Located in modern day Iraq). The city was ruled by the order of magicians called Gilgamesh. His name is Diogenes, Dio. Dio loved wondering around and his masters would often send him to the mountains to herd the sheep. He was shepherd in many ways, he enjoyed the mountains, the light breeze, sound of birds and rivers. He would often sing along. His love for music, the hidden power of sound, harmony and shapes it forms, is what drew Dio to the magic in the first place.

On a day that was just like any other He was sent to herd the sheep again. When he returned to the academy everything was gone. The order of Gilgamesh was wiped out, nothing but ash and ruins remaining. He is lost and does not know what to do. Everything Dio knows about magic is of no much use, except the ivory codex of emerald pages, the book that his dying master entrusted him.

He searches for knowledge, for understanding of magic, the search takes him all around the world, fighting different types of beasts as he goes along the way. Dio finds new methods, explores the essence of monsters, which helps him to learn more about the surrounding world and the mysteries it holds, all the while reaching deeper understanding of his consciousness and limits of one’s ignorance.

Young magician travels around the world in old fashioned vagabond way. Dio seeks for masters to learn from. These masters of different views, skills and wisdom teach him about the world and himself.

The masters are from different orders. They each have their collection of antique codex in the archaic libraries of the ancient cities. One in Egypt, in Cairo. Another in Istanbul (Constantinople), Turkey. Yet another in Tibet, Greece, Arabian Peninsula (these represent different maps, with many varieties of beasts).
