Materials

STYROFOAM Brand Foam

Ball, 1-1/2"

Egg, 3"

Other Materials

Wool fiber (roving): black; orange; cream; brown;

Tools

Ruler

Wooden toothpicks

Scissors

Needlefelting tool with heavyweight needle and sma

Air-soluble fabric marker

Low-temp glue gun and glue sticks

Thick, white craft glue

Instructions

1. Twist foam ball against narrow end of foam egg; remove

ball. Glue two wooden toothpicks halfway into top of egg, apply

glue to free ends and push ball down onto toothpicks. Let dry.

2. Place small amount of brown roving against owl and attach

to surface using felting needle; follow manufacturer's

instructions to ensure safety. Continue felting roving to foam

until completely covered. Loosely felt additional roving to

body for fluffy wings. Loosely felt two dime-sized balls of

roving to owl's head for ears.

3. Form a medium-sized oval from gray roving; needlefelt to

owl's belly. Felt two dime-sized balls of cream roving to

owl's head for eyes. Felt two smaller black roving balls to eyes for

pupils; highlight each eye with a speck of felted cream roving.

4. Working on felting mat, needlefelt layers of orange roving

together to make dense fabric about 1/8" thick. Note: Scrap

foam may be used in place of felting mat.

5. Using air-soluble marker, refer to photo to draw small

triangular beak and two medium-sized triangular feet onto

fabric. Cut out and felt shapes to owl.
