However, purchasing the game isn't enough. Whether you buy it from retail or digitally from the eShop, you have to perform extra steps to get the Piranha Plant code - specifically claiming your Gold Points from the Switch's menu screen.

If you bought Super Smash Bros Ultimate on the eShop then your points are claimed automatically - your Piranha Plant code will be automatically emailed to the address registered with your Nintendo Account.
