Sintesi della vita di Belisario, generale bizantino e eroe di guerra sotto Giustiniano.
This app contains a summary of the life and military achievements of Flavius Belisarius (c. 505–565 CE), a famous Byzantine general and war hero under the reign of Emperor Justinian I (or Justinian the Great). He is often regarded as the "last Roman general" and played a key role in reconquering much of the territory of the former Western Roman Empire in battles against the Vandals, Persians, and Ostrogoths.
What was the Byzantine Empire?
The Byzantine Empire, also referred to as the Eastern Roman Empire, was the continuation of the Roman Empire in the East during Late Antiquity, the Dark Ages, and the Middle Ages. Its capital city was Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul, Turkey) which had been founded as Byzantium. The Byzantine Empire survived the fragmentation and fall of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century CE and continued to exist for an additional thousand years until it fell to the Ottoman Turks in 1453. During most of its existence, the Byzantine Empire was the most powerful economic, cultural, and military force in Europe, and its citizens continued to refer to their empire as the "Roman Empire" and to themselves as "Romans."
