DSTI means Daily Safe Task Instructions.

* DSTI’s are used to create awareness of hazards, explain immediate actions, the measures to prevent exposure and to reduce the risk profile.

* DSTI’s are conducted, completed and communicated by the Supervisor and will be recorded on the appropriate DSTI form.

* The DSTI / Mini Risk Assessment shall make reference to the applicable task specific risk assessments applicable to the activity being performed.

* The DSTI is not a repeat of the task specific risk assessment but a risk assessment specific to the work location and activity to identify all other related hazards and risks in the vicinity not identified on the task specific risk assessment and to enable the work crew to identify all possible hazards and risk to control such hazards and risks that might have an impact on them.

* These assessments shall be kept at the area of the activity and be open for view at all interested parties.

* Supervisors responsible for the activity being performed shall use the DSTI to compare it with the task specific risk assessment applicable to the activity to ensure the risk assessment is up to date and cover all the risks and hazards involved. If any changes required they shall report such changes to the risk assessor to update the risk assessment and risk register accordingly.

* These assessment shall be handed to the Safety Department at the end of the activity / shift. The appointed Risk Assessor will then, where appropriate, use the information to update the Risk Register.
