The entire Qur’an recited in the voice of the reciter Sheikh Mustafa Ismail, without the Internet.

The Qur’an recited in the voice of the reciter Sheikh Mustafa Ismail, in full, without the Internet, the Holy Quran Radio version from Cairo.

Mustafa Ismael

His birth and upbringing

Sheikh Mustafa Ismail during the nights of Ramadan, wearing a white robe, in the presence of King Farouk

Sheikh Mustafa Ismail was born in the village of Mit Ghazal, Al-Santa Center, Gharbia Governorate on June 17, 1905 AD (corresponding to the month of Rabi’ al-Thani 1323 AH). He memorized the Holy Qur’an when he was over twelve years old in the village bookstores, then he joined the Ahmadi Institute in Tanta to study recitations and the rules of recitation. The Sheikh completed the recitation and intonation of the Holy Qur’an and reviewed it thirty times at the hands of Sheikh Idris Fakher.

On one of the nights of the month of Ramadan in the year 1917, Sheikh Idris was staying up late at Sheikh Mustafa’s house with his son. Sheikh Idris said to his son, “Read a quarter,” and after his son finished reading, he said, “Read, Mustafa, Surah (PBUH).” Mustafa Ismail replied to him, “This is a long one, our master.” But he read it and when the family was happy and Sheikh Idris congratulated his talented student, Ismail’s grandfather decided to reward Sheikh Idris. Mustafa Ismail completed the Tajweed of the Qur’an and its ten recitations at the hands of Sheikh Idris Fakher, when he was only 16 years old.

Starting from Tanta

Then he went to reside in Tanta, and from there the true launch of his talent took place. When the body of Mr. Hussein Bey Al-Qasabi arrived from Istanbul to Tanta, all of Tanta came out to receive the body at the train station in the city. Sheikh Mustafa Ismail says: “I went out like the rest of the people to receive the body, and on the day of the funeral, one of Mr. Al-Qasabi’s relatives invited me to read the condolences. I was 16 years old, and I wore a turban, a robe, a caftan, and a kakoula. God wanted all the people from the directorates and all the notables of Egypt to hear me, and I went to the huge pavilion set up to receive Prince Muhammad Ali, the guardian of the throne of King Farouk, Saad Pasha Zaghloul, Omar Pasha Toson, the notables of Egypt, and members of the royal family at that time. The funeral was also attended by the notables of Alexandria, Port Said, and all the notables of the Egyptian country...and there were no loudspeakers, so I decided to let the entire pavilion hear my voice. When the first reciter, whose name was Sheikh Salem Hazza, may God have mercy on him, finished, he got off the bench. I jumped on the bench and sat down, and suddenly a reciter called out, saying, “Get down, boy. This is the work of children.” Until one of Mr. Al-Qasabi’s relatives came and said to Sheikh Hassan, “This is a reader like you who is invited to read.” I read and impressed the audience with my recitation, and Sheikh Hassan Sobh was also impressed.”

Royal Palace Reader

Sheikh Muhammad Rifaat also listened to him, and he himself was a fan of and influenced by the voice of Sheikh Muhammad Rifaat, Sheikh Abdel Fattah Al Shasha’i and others. His fame spread throughout Gharbia Governorate and its neighboring governorates, and one of those close to him advised him to go to Cairo, and in fact he went there and met one of the sheikhs who listened to him and appreciated his reading and the sweetness of his voice. Then he presented him the next day to read at a celebration from which Sheikh Abdel Fattah Al-Shasha’i was absent due to an emergency, and the attendees admired him. . King Farouk heard him and was impressed by his voice and ordered him to be appointed as reciter of the Royal Palace even though he had not been accredited on the radio.

Sheikh Mustafa Ismail visited twenty-five Arab and Islamic countries and spent the nights of the holy month of Ramadan reciting the Holy Qur’an there. He also traveled to the island of Ceylon, Turkey, Malaysia, and Tanzania, and he also visited Germany and the United States of America.

Sheikh Mustafa Ismail visited the city of Jerusalem in 1960, and read the Holy Qur’an in Al-Aqsa Mosque on one of the nights of the Night Journey and Mi’raj. President Muhammad Anwar Sadat was a fan of hearing the voice of Sheikh Mustafa Ismail, and he even imitated his method of recitation when Sadat was imprisoned. He also chose him as part of the official delegation during his visit to Jerusalem in 1977, and there he again read the Holy Qur’an in Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Honor

Sheikh Mustafa Ismail received the Order of Merit from the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser, the Order of the Cedar from Lebanon in 1958, the Medal of Arts in 1965, the Order of Excellence in 1985 from President Mubarak, and the Order of Merit from Syria. He also received the highest award from Malaysia, and Medal of Arts from Tanzania. Sheikh Ismail received invitations and requests from Arab and Islamic countries to read in them, so he responded to those invitations, traveled to many of those countries, and read in them.

His death

At nine o'clock in the morning on Friday, December 22, 1978 AD, the Sheikh left his home, heading to Damietta to read at the opening of the Al-Bahr Mosque in the presence of the late President Mohamed Anwar Sadat.

In Damietta, the sheikh read his last recitation, after which he returned to his villa in the Rushdi neighborhood in Alexandria. There he suffered a brain explosion and paralysis crept into his body, so he was transferred to the hospital in Alexandria while he was in a complete coma, in which he remained for several days until he died on the morning of Tuesday, December 26, 1978, and an official funeral was held for him. On Thursday, December 28, 1978.
