Sheikh Ahmed Issa Hassan Al-Masarawi, the former sheikh of all Egyptian reciters.

Foundation

He was born in the village of Dandit, located in the Mit Ghamr district of Dakahlia Governorate, on March 1, 1953 AD. He grew up in the village of Dandit, where he memorized the Qur’an at the hands of Sheikh Abdul Hamid Hajjaj in the year 1964. Then he went to Sheikh Muhammad Ismail Abdo, where he read to him the conclusion of Hafs with permission, then he read to him the narration of Warsh on the authority of Nafi’, then he traveled with his father to Cairo, where his father worked.

His study

He joined the Al-Khazindar Reading Institute in Shubra, Cairo Governorate, and met several sheikhs from whom the readings were narrated through the various stages of study at the institute. Among these sheikhs were Sheikh Muhammad Al-Atar, Sheikh Ahmed Mar’i, Sheikh Qasim Al-Dajwi, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Ashmouni, and Sheikh Ahmed Mustafa (Abu Hassan). Sheikh Muhammad Al-Surti, Al-Saadi Hammad, Suleiman Al-Saghir and others.

He joined the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Al-Azhar University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Islamic and Arabic studies in 1980.

He traveled to Saudi Arabia to work at the Teachers College from 1981 to 1985, then joined postgraduate studies in 1985 and obtained a master’s degree in Hadith and its sciences in 1989 with an excellent grade, after he finished preparing his master’s thesis on readings in the book Tafsir al-Zamakhshari.

He obtained the International (PhD) in Hadith and its Sciences in 1992 with an excellent grade with first class honors.

His working life

Sheikh Al-Maasrawi began his working life as a teacher in Al-Azhar institutes from 1/1/76 until 10/8/93, then he moved to Al-Azhar University, Department of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Education in Cairo, as a Hadith teacher, then an assistant professor, then a professor in the same department.

Then he was the head of the Qur’an review committee at the Islamic Research Academy, the sheikh of the reciter of the Imam Hussein Mosque in Cairo, a member of the testing committee on Egyptian radio, and the sheikh of all Egyptian reciters. He was dismissed from office on April 3, 2014 AD.

He participated in arbitrating many competitions, including the Brunei, Thailand, Turkey, and Mecca competitions, the Egypt International Competitions, the Qatar and Dubai International Competitions, and the Prince Sultan Competition in Senegal. He participated in many international meetings for preaching and leading in many countries of the world, and Tarawih prayers in many countries of the world.
