The recited Qur’an for the reciter, Sheikh Muhammad Rashad Al-Sharif, the imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque, may God relieve him of his captivity.

Muhammad Rashad Al-Sharif (1925 - September 26, 2016), one of the famous reciters of the Holy Qur’an in the Islamic world, and the reciter of the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. He is a professor of Arabic language at Hebron University and the schools of Jerusalem and Hebron. He was also a reciter of the Holy Qur’an on Jordanian television. He moved to live in Jordan since 2002 and previously led the King Abdullah I Mosque in Abdali.

He is “Muhammad Rashad” bin Abdul Salam bin Abdul Rahman Al-Sharif, and his lineage goes back to Al-Hussein bin Ali bin Abi Talib bin Fatima Al-Zahra. He was born in the city of Hebron, Palestine in 1925.

Al-Sharif started learning tarteel at a young age. He read the Holy Qur’an to Sheikh Hussein Ali Abu Sneineh and authorized it with two narrations of Hafs on the authority of Asim and Warsh, until he mastered Qur’anic reading at the age of eighteen, influenced by the reading of the reciter Muhammad Rifaat. It was heard by the Mufti of Hebron, Sheikh Abdullah Tahboub, in the year 1941, and he sent it to the Palestinian radio in the city of Jerusalem, so that the people of peace could listen to it. Among them was the late Palestinian poet Ibrahim Tuqan, so they agreed to read it. In the year 1943, he listened to Muhammad Rashad Al-Sharif, the sheikh of reciters in the twentieth century, the reciter Muhammad Rifaat, who was blind, and he said about him, “I listen to Muhammad Rifaat from Palestine,” and he responded to him in a letter in the year 1944, considering him as “the second Muhammad Rifaat.”

He was appointed as reciter of Al-Aqsa Mosque in 1966, and he read there Friday after Friday, because he was also reading in the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron.

His recording of the Qur’an

The Islamic Conference was held in Jeddah in 1980, and discussed the matter of assigning Sheikh Muhammad Rashad Al-Sharif to record the entire Qur’an to be distributed to the world. He asked the former Jordanian Minister of Endowments, Kamel Al-Sharif, to summon Sheikh Al-Sharif to Amman to record the Qur’an, so he began with that and completed the completion of the Qur’an in 1984 AD, and the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments took over. Copies of this Qur’an were distributed to many of Jordan’s guests, including scholars and officials. Recently, the Qur’an of Al-Aqsa Mosque recited in its voice was issued, and the slow chanted readings of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Ibrahimi Mosque were added.
