3. The app creator, Dr. Mugunthan Murugan, a Malaysian has created the Holodomor app to reach out to the global citizenry on a historical tragedy suffered by the people of Ukraine. He had spent a good six years in Ukraine and has established a lifelong relationship with the country through his marriage to a Ukrainian. The tragedy of Holodomor had left such a lasting impression on him that he had undertaken this journey to bring the world together to observe a minute of silence on the fourth Saturday of November for any given year. The causes of the Holodomor are a subject of scholarly and political debate. Some historians theorize that the famine was an unintended consequence of the economic problems associated with radical economic changes implemented during the period of Soviet industrialization.
