Informing the population about the risk of flooding in the state of Saxony-Anhalt

The app “Flood DangerST” serves to inform the population about the risk of flooding in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. It also provides information on flood protection and what to do in the event of flooding. Since the app serves to provide citizen information, it is free.

The “Flood DangerST” app visualizes the flood risk maps of the state of Saxony-Anhalt in the map area. The classified water depths of areas that are flooded during a flood event are shown. The representation can be selected for 3 defined scenarios with different probabilities of occurrence. In addition to HQ100, which statistically occurs once in 100 years, the effects of the flood probabilities HQ10 and HQ200 can be illustrated. The areas therefore do not show past events, but rather represent calculation results with a defined statistical probability of occurrence.

Within the map display, current water levels at each gauge location can be accessed in the app by touching the level symbols. Alternatively, further level information can be found on the website of the state's flood forecast center. In the event of flooding, the level symbols are colored according to the flood alarm levels currently reached.

The flood protection dikes for which the state is responsible can also be shown. By touching the dike line, relevant master data for the respective dike section opens. Topographical maps or satellite images can be set as the background (underlying base map).

In the sidebar, which can be shown or hidden using the menu symbol in the top left corner, the display of the data offered (flood hazard map, dikes, gauges, location view, country view) can be switched on and off as well as the type of data underlying base map (topographic map, satellite image). The “Location View” and “Country View” buttons can be used to switch between the user’s specific location and the country overview. In addition, a legend with an explanation of the content shown on the map can be seen in the lower part of the sidebar. The sidebar is scrollable.

In the upper right corner of the header, current reports on flood warnings and information from the flood forecast center (HVZ) can be accessed. The ones available there

In addition, you will find references to other sources of information on the current situation as well as explanations of the usual alarm and reporting levels to support you in the specific case of flooding. In addition, a wealth of information is provided on the subject of flood protection measures and precautions as part of your own precautionary measures. All relevant terms are explained in the glossary. With a simple touch on the relevant topic, the available content is displayed. In the sub-terms or topics there is a back button at the top left (arrow to the left), which takes you back to the higher-level term or topic.
