Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for Chinese into text with Pinyin & speech.
Fun OCR (Chinese + Pinyin) enables user to convert image of traditional/simplified Chinese language into editable text. Additionally, this app provides the Pinyin for each Chinese character in the converted text together with text-to-speech function too.
The main objectives for the inclusion of Pinyin & text-to-speech:
>>To assist user who is not proficient in reading Chinese but can speaks little/fluently of the language. With this assistance, user can at least grasp a part if not the whole meaning of thing such as food menu, newspaper headlines, etc.
>>There are currently 85,000 characters in Chinese language but only 3,000 characters are commonly used in daily life, therefore unable to recognize unfamiliar Chinese characters might occur.
Please take note:
--Fun OCR works best with text image that is sharp and clear, preferably with solid background color, e.g. white/black/grey. The sharper and clearer an image that the phone model can produce, the higher it is the accuracy rate of the OCR.
--Fun OCR cannot read image of handwritten text.
--How the text image is cropped & optimized can affect the accuracy rate of the OCR.
--Text image photographed directly from the screen of laptop/PC/tablet might not work.
--Fun OCR provides the Pinyin & text-to-speech of each Chinese character only & does not translate the exact meaning of the converted text.
--Require "Google text-to-speech” for the speech function to work properly. User will be prompted to install if it is not available on the phone.
We are continuing to improve the performance of Fun OCR and would love to receive any feedback from everyone on what/how we can further improve this app. Thank you :)
