FM Popular 98.7

FM Popular opens its microphones in pursuit of a more just and supportive society.

Its objectives are:

Promote critical and solidarity awareness in the popular sectors

Spread the culture of the slums: its history, its music, its traditions.

Facilitate access to expression and knowledge, basic citizen rights.

Promote actions that contribute to the common good, with other institutions and popular organizations.

Since the beginning of the radio, our concern has been to respond to the needs of the slums, offering expression channels and seeking the development of a critical and supportive conscience.

In it we prioritize the news of the popular sectors or those that involve them, valuing the facts that reinforce the organizational constructions. Music is what reflects the joys, dreams and chores of these same sectors; That's why Chamamés, Cumbia Tango, Hip Hop, Rap and National Rock are heard.

They often visit the local, located in La Rioja 4640 in the Santa Rosa neighborhood of Lima, local artists and institutional leaders.

The communicational model of its beginnings is still alternative and community, the radio occupies a place of recognition in the entities and organizations that have it when it comes to disseminating and adhering to actions in defense of the rights of all.

Like community radio stations that are tuned across the country, FM Popular has characteristics that differentiate it from commercial stations:

It is not for profit. Their income is entirely devoted to building maintenance and to cover the running costs of the different activities of the Popular Education Service (P.Lucho Quiroga Library: children's cooking workshop, school support and crafts)

b- it has no proprietors. Its management is governed by a management commission chosen each year by the partners of the entity.

c- the decisions are defined by said commission and the set of partners.

d- prioritizes service to the community and commits to the defense of their rights.

The rich activity displayed by FM Popular and the entity that contains it: the Popular Education Service, which has also generated the popular library "P. Lucho Quiroga. " it justifies the institutional effort to offer a contribution of a quality of increasing quality to the construction of a fair and equal society.

Our institution integrates a Network of state and community entities, which implies that the work of each of them has the opportunity to publicize their practice through the microphones by performing a free radio program.

The work in Network allowed the development of the New Opportunity program, where its members are trained in radial and graphic communication. The objective of this program proposes a totalizing approach for adolescents and young people in a situation of social criticality. Over time, the formation of a simple productive unit has been achieved where its members access their first work experience and also the incorporation of the radio staff as communicators or operators.

Brief historical review:

The Popular Education Service was born in the 80s, acquiring a house located in La Rioja 4640, city of Santa Fe. In it, a popular library that will bear the name, by choice of the neighborhoods, of a beloved pastor begins to operate. : P.Lucho Quiroga. In 1989 the FM Popular, "community" radio in the city of Santa Fe was created. Its proposal breaks with the models in force at the moment: the music will be the one that the popular sectors listen to (cumbia, chamamé, tango ...), Their voices will be those of the neighborhoods, the information that is privileged is that of the slums. It was silenced: in the avoidable floods of 2003 and 2007 and in March of this year with the fall of its antenna. It was reissued thanks to the solidarity of society as a whole and this year, in addition to a contribution from the Pcia government.
