Logic comes from the Latin logos which means "word". The etymological term logos is actually derived from the adjective loge: "Thought" or "word". The term Mantiq in Arabic comes from the verb Nataqa which means "to say" or "to speak".

The term logic, seen from an etymological perspective, comes from the Greek word logos which is used with several meanings, such as speech, language, words, understanding, thought, reason, science. From the word logos, the adjective logical is derived which is often heard in our daily conversations.

People talk about logical behavior as opposed to illogical behavior, about logical procedures, about logical explanations, about logical ways of thinking, and the like. In all those cases, the word logical is used in roughly the same sense as ‘reasonable’; in short, everything that accords with, and is acceptable to, common sense.

Based only on the etymological meaning, what the logic actually is is still unknown. In order to truly understand the essence of logic, one must of course study it. For this purpose, it would be appropriate if, as an initial introduction, we first present here a definition of the term logic.
