About Tafsir Fi Zialil Quran

Fi Zilal al-Qur'an (Arabic: في ظِلالِ القرآن‎, romanized: fī ẓilāl al-qur'ān, lit. 'In the Shade of the Qur'an') is a highly influential commentary of the Qur'an, written during 1951-1965 by the Egyptian Sayyid Qutb (1906-1966), a leader within the Muslim Brotherhood. He wrote (or re-wrote) most of the original 30 volumes (114 Surahs) while in prison following an attempted assassination of Egyptian dictator Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1954.[1] The book outlines Qutb's vision of a Muslim state and society. It is considered by some[who?] to be a comprehensive and far-reaching commentary that takes a clear and lucid interpretation of the Qur'an. It has much influence throughout the Muslim world, especially amongst the ordinary lay practitioners of Islam in the Arab world.[citation needed]

About Author

Sayyid Ibrahim Husayn Shadhili Qutb[Note 1] (/ˈkuːtəb/[2] or /ˈkʌtəb/; Egyptian Arabic pronunciation: [ˈsæjjed ˈʔotˤb], Arabic: [ˈsæjjɪd ˈqʊtˤb]; Arabic: سيد قطب إبراهيم حسين‎ Sayyid Quṭb; 9 October 1906 – 29 August 1966), known popularly as Sayyid Qutb, was an Egyptian author, educator, Islamic theorist, poet, and a leading member of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1966, he was convicted of plotting the assassination of Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser and was executed by hanging.

Author of 24 books,[3] with around 30 books unpublished for different reasons (mainly destruction by the state),[4] and at least 581 articles,[5] including novels, literary arts critique and works on education, he is best known in the Muslim world for his work on what he believed to be the social and political role of Islam, particularly in his books Social Justice and Ma'alim fi al-Tariq (Milestones). His magnum opus, Fi Zilal al-Quran (In the Shade of the Qur'an), is a 30-volume commentary on the Quran.[6]
