We decided to look at the source code for the Signal Messenger android app. Our interested was limited to looking at privacy issues about the code.

After spending time looking at the source code, we found code at many parts of the app that has one purpose which is to trace, track, monitor, analysis user usage of the app, and sending the info and data to outside. We decided to disable and/or remove such a code responsible for spying on the user from the app.

Also, we found that the Signal Messenger app uses a third party tool that is known to spy on users. Currently, there is a legal case against the owner of the tool for spying on users without their consent, and voilating the wiretap act for US.

Important Note: the Signal messenger (and this app) requests access to the camera, contacts, messages and phone permissions. The Android operating system and system apps included in the Android OS spy extensively on the users of Android devices. To increase the protection to the privacy and security of the users, it is highly recommended that the user does not use the standard camera, contacts, messages (or messaging) and phone apps in the Android OS. Instead the user should use our apps MyCamera, MyContacts, MyMessaging, and MyPhone. Those apps are based on the same official source code for the system apps after cleaning them from all the code that Google can use in spying on the users. Some of these apps are available on Google Play market. All the app are available on Huawei AppGallery market. The user will need to install the android app for Huawei AppGallery on the device to get access to the apps.

Also, the Signal Messenger app will co-exist with this app on the same device. However, the user will need to use a different phone number to install this app than the the phone number used to install the Signal app on the same device. On a phone device, the app will automatically pick up the phone number. The user should delete that number and enter another number of choice. On a tablet device, the app does not automatically pick up any phone number. The user should enter the phone number of choice. Also, on a tablet, the user could use the cell phone number used to install the Signal app on that phone. In case that case, the user will be asked to enter the pin number used on the cell phone.
