“CARBON FOOTPRINT D 4730” PROJECT

A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas emissions caused by an individual, service, place or product, expressed in carbon dioxide.

The “Carbon Footprint D4730” project was based on the GHG (GreenHouse Gas Protocol) methodology, which quantifies the CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions generated by participants during their trip to a given event.

District 4730's proposal is to measure the amount of CO2 emitted at Rotary events and, consequently, carry out tree planting actions, offsetting this emission, in addition to making people aware of the need to reduce this 'carbon footprint'!

This proposal does not intend to carry out complete calculations with all the variables involved, as advocated by the GHG Protocol, as it is intended only to raise awareness on the subject.

Therefore, this application will be used to collect information, in which the participant will register the type of transport, which fuel is used and the total mileage traveled in the trip to and from the Event.

After recording the information, a D4730 carbon calculator will calculate how many tons of CO2 were emitted in the displacement and how many trees will be needed to neutralize this carbon emission. Otherwise, the total value of the Event will be disclosed on the social networks of District 4730 with the suggestion of places to carry out the plantings.

The next step is for each participant to think and evaluate their actions to reduce their carbon footprint and plant more trees!
