Mexican Spanish Dictionary
Comprehensive descriptive dictionary of Spanish in its Mexican variety.
The Mexican Spanish Dictionary is the result of a set of research on the vocabulary used in the Mexican Republic since 1921. The research has been carried out since 1973 at the Center for Linguistic and Literary Studies of El Colegio de México.
The Mexican Spanish Dictionary is a comprehensive dictionary of Spanish in its Mexican variety, prepared on the basis of an extensive study of the Corpus of Contemporary Mexican Spanish (1921-1974) and a set of data from after that last date to the present.
This is an original work, of a descriptive nature, made with exclusively linguistic criteria. All the vocabulary it includes has been used or is used in Mexico, at least since 1921.
When you open the dictionary, the space to search for a word appears above.
Below appears a section called Word Lottery, which randomly chooses one of the words contained in the dictionary. This Lottery seeks to awaken greater interest in the content of the dictionary. Each time this screen opens, the Lottery will select a new word. The moment the answer to the search appears, the Lottery disappears.
A drop-down list appears on the upper left side of the screen where you can view the About DEM, DEM Supports, and Videos sections.
The rules of spelling, accentuation and punctuation are illustrated in DEM Supports. There is also an explanation of the use of each of the verb tenses. Cards are offered about prefixes and suffixes. In addition, you can find writing lists of demonyms from the Mexican Republic, Latin American countries and numbers.
The electronic computer version offers many more consultation elements on the portal https://dem.colmex.mx.
