From January 2021, the DFS drone app will no longer be updated. The Droniq app is an alternative.

The free app informs users about the applicable rules and regulations for the use of drones in Germany. The aim of the German-language app is to make buyers of small and toy drones aware of the potential dangers of their use. The professional pilot should also be supported with the map information. The prerequisite for using the app is activation of the location services on the smartphone / tablet and registration of the user. The app answers the question “Where can I fly?” And is easy to use. The safe and fair integration of drones into air traffic is the goal of DFS.

Interactive maps show for each location in Germany which rules have to be observed there. The app provides information about areas and facilities that cannot be overflown or can only be overflown to a limited extent. These include airports and other protected airspaces, hospitals, industrial and energy plants, police and military facilities, and nature reserves. The diverse map data was compiled from official sources and the DFS aviation database and is updated cyclically. In addition, the app provides an overview of flights that have already been carried out with a logbook function, which can be signaled in a user-friendly way with a start and land button. Additional menus allow the administration of profiles, drones, settings, the query of additional data and user feedback.
