About deckWatch™

smartAIS™ for Wear: collision avoidance, anchor watch, MOB, and instruments.

deckWatch™ connects to your Vesper XB-8000 or Vision AIS transponder to bring smartAIS™ safety at sea to your Android smart watch. deckWatch™has four functional areas: collision avoidance, man overboard recovery, anchor watch, and navigation instruments.

Collision avoidance uses AIS to track at least the ten most critical targets. deckWatch™ presents each target in simple, uncluttered views showing name, bearing, range, tcpa, and other information critical for collision avoidance.

Recognizing the unique advantages of AIS for MOB recovery, the MOB functional area has a dedicated situation view focused solely on MOB recovery. This view includes bearing, range, and crew name (if configured in your transponder): simple and to the point.

For safety at anchor, the anchor watch area of the application allows you to mark your anchor position when you drop anchor: very convenient and the most precise way to set the anchor position. Once anchor down, you can view range and bearing to the anchor and how close you are to the anchor watch alarm radius.

Finally, the instrument views present navigation information at your fingertips no matter where you are on the boat. The instruments include wind (apparent, true, ground, depending on your sensors), depth, speed, heading, COG, SOG, water temperature, and GPS position.

When your transponder alarm sounds, deckWatch™ will show an alarm indication (collision risk, MOB, or anchor drag) and take you directly to the relevant view. Note that deckWatch™is not itself an alarm device. We recommend an external alarm wired directly to your transponder, for maximum reliability.

PLEASE NOTE that deckWatch™ maintains a WiFi connection with your AIS transponder. The use of WiFi can significantly reduce the time between charges on your watch. While the useable time depends on the specific watch and your usage of the application, our testing indicates an average time of 12 hours between charges.
