The Dancing House is the nickname given to the building constructed by the Dutch insurance company Nationale-Nederlanden in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The full address of the Dancing House building is Rašínovo nábřeží 80, 120 00 Praha 2.
It is the architectural structure designed by Vlado Milunić, an architect of Croatian and Czech origin, in collaboration with Frank Gehry, an architect of Canadian origin, in an empty and riverside area. The structure in this area had stood empty since it was destroyed in the Czech Bombing in 1945. Construction of the Dancing House started in 1992 and was completed in 1996.
This design, which is not suitable for traditional architectural movements and in the style of Deconstructivism, has caused controversy since the approval of the Dancing House construction. Václav Havel, the first president of the Czech Republic and living in the area next to this building, supported the realization of this construction and expressed his hope that the Dancing House will become an important center of cultural activities.
Originally named Fred and Ginger because it was dedicated to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and symbolized the two dancing partners, this structure stands out among the Baroque, Gothic, and Art Nouveau buildings ordinary in the region.
There are offices of several international companies in the Dancing House, where there is a French restaurant on the rooftop.
