About Daisies

The Latin name "Asteraceae" is derived from the type genus Aster, which is a Greek term that means "star".

Asteraceae or Compositae, known as the aster or sunflower family, including:

Bellis, especially Bellis perennis (common daisy). Bellis is Latin for "pretty" and perennis is Latin for "everlasting". The English Daisy is also considered to be a flower of children and innocence.

Brachyscome, including Brachyscome iberidifolia (Swan River daisy). The ray florets are varied in colour, white through pink and blue to violet. The typical daisy arrangement is seen in the flowerhead, which appear between August and May in endemic examples.

Leucanthemum vulgare (ox-eye daisy). The leaves are dark green on both sides. The basal and middle leaves are petiolate, obovate to spoon-shaped, and serrate to dentate. The upper leaves are shorter, sessile, and borne along the stem.

Leucanthemum × superbum (Shasta daisy). It originated as a hybrid produced in 1890 by the American horticulturist Luther Burbank from a number of daisies.

Argyranthemum (marguerite daisy)

Osteospermum (African or Cape daisy)

Rhodanthemum (Moroccan daisy)

Glebionis coronaria (crown daisy)
