About Día de Muertos Mexico

Day of the Dead in Mexico, tribute to the deceased with skulls, sweets, flowers

Day of the Dead Festival in Mexico

The Day of the Dead festival has great significance worldwide, but in Mexico it reaches its maximum expression, to the point of being one of the most important holidays on the calendar. They even have one day for each type of deceased! November 1 is dedicated to the soul of children, while the next day is dedicated to that of adults.

Death in Mexico, as celebrated as it is taboo in other countries, here tastes like pan de muertos, the smell of marigolds and the image of a skull known as Catrina. Everything is party and joy despite being such a seemingly painful, sad and even fearful matter.

According to tradition, during these days the dead return from the afterlife, attracted by the smell and the yellow color of the typical flowers, marigolds, and by the light of the candles that illuminate their path. In cemeteries, family and friends make offerings with the deceased's favorite food and drink, photographs of his life and, in the case of children, toys. They even hire musical groups to perform the favorite songs of the deceased. These are days when mariachis are felt in every corner ...

Throughout Mexico, cemeteries are open day and night, 24 hours a day, and the streets are full of people dressed in the characteristic colors of this party, skull or deceased. The faces are painted to celebrate the arrival of the soul of their relatives, who these days can return to the underworld.

Death is also represented in Mexican gastronomy, with typical products that represent it in different ways, such as sweet skulls or the bread of the dead, which simulates skeletons.

And it is that the Day of the Dead is very much alive in the culture of the Mexicans.
