About CU Nursing & Well Being

Joint trial by CUHK Nethersole School of Nursing and Well Being Digital Limited

This application will serve as a convenient all-in-one tool for you as you participate in this trial. The trial device measures your stress, anxiety, and depression levels using earbuds with WBD101’s ActivHeartsTM Heart Rate monitor technology.

The application will serve to record and measure the trial participant’s Heart Rate, Respiration Rate, RMSSD, LF, and HF when the trial device is worn. It will also serve to allow participants to take surveys to measure stress, anxiety, and depression levels periodically during the trial period.

Using the Application and the Device:

Participants will be required to wear the samples to sense their inter-beat interval (RRI) and measure their heart rate variability (HRV) 2 hours during daytime (such as studying in the library) and 4 hours at night (such as before sleep), each day, before, during and after the day of their mock examinations.

When the device is worn, participants must connect the device to the mobile application beforehand and ensure it is connected throughout the session. At the end of each session, the participant’s data will be recorded and saved.

Answering Surveys:

Participants will answer surveys within the APP to ascertain stress level 8 times for each mock examination:

1. Morning & Afternoon (the day before, the day of, and the day after mock exam)

2. Right before and right after the mock exam.

The survey will measure participant’s stress, anxiety, and depression levels using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS-S).

Note:

The data collected from the device will be compared to the self-reported stress, depression, and anxiety levels (in the surveys) to assess the precision and accuracy of the earbuds in predicting user’s stress, anxiety, and depression levels.
