• Semantic Technologies and Agritech Services Pvt. Ltd., Pune has developed the CropTech Pro app which works as a Digital Personal Assistant for Cotton Farmers to enable Remote Sensing based Precision Farming.

• Our goal is to reduce cost of production and increase productivity, using precision farming techniques and establish a sustainable Cotton value chain.

• All farmers connected through an app and each plot monitored using remote sensing in GIS environment is the basic concept.

Background -

Cotton is an important cash crop in India. Over the years, the cost of production of Cotton has gone up substantially. Cotton crop responds well to better nutrient and pest management practices. However, wastage of resources due to excess or inadequate usage is a common feature. A digital decision support system for farmers right from selection of variety, spacing to nutrition management and pest management etc. is therefore needed.

Features of the app –

• A decision support tool within the app will help the farmer in choosing the right variety for the farm considering soil fertility, previous crop, manure used, irrigation availability and type of irrigation.

• At the time of sowing, the app will guide the farmer about appropriate spacing and basal dose of fertilizers based on sowing date, targeted yield and other parameters.

• Facility to register the boundaries of the farm plot.

• Periodic monitoring of each registered farm plot using satellite imagery and suitable advisories will be issued.

• Information collected through satellite imagers, weather satellites and images captured / data entered by the farmers through app will be processed to generate customized plot level advisories regarding interculture, fertigation, pest control, use of micronutrients etc.

• Farmers will be able to view processed satellite imagery of their farm on the app supported by explanation to know the crop health in each part of the farm.

• Possible occurrence of pest and diseases will be indicated using weather conditions, crop growth stage and other sources.

• Services of detection of pest / disease using photograph uploaded by the farmer and control measure recommendations will be provided through the app.

• Advisory for spraying at right time and right place to enable use of pesticides in appropriate quantity and on specific damaged area only leading to savings.
