Like any other proud ’90s kid, chokers were the essential fashion accessory for me growing up. No, seriously, I was like 7 and I wouldn’t leave the house with one on. And the fact that they are having a major comeback right now makes my tiny ’90s heart melt. But like anything that’s trendy, they can often be overpriced, which is actually a rip off, since they are mostly super easy to make. And with chokers the options are endless, you can get creative and always come up with something on your own. But in case you’re the type of person who isn’t that adventurous and likes to follow a good ol’ DIY tutorial (like me), here is a list of easy and beautiful chokers that you can make with only a couple of supplies. Whether you want to make a super easy belt choker or an intricate lacey one, I’ve got you covered.
This cute thick black strip choker with a chain
The great thing about DIY-ing your choker is that you can actually customize the colors to your own preferences
This sleek black string with metallic end pieces
These string chokers are extremely popular right now, and you can easily make one on your own. All you need are 2 yards of suede cord, 2 anglets (made for shoelaces), 2 small screws, and a screwdriver.
This super easy belt choker
This one is probably the easiest, since all you need are a skinny belt and a pair of scissors (if needed).
This Battenburg lace choker
It does look a bit harder to make, but once you get all the necessary supplies, it’s actually quite easy. You will need a black lace design, chains, a clasp closure, jump rings, needle nose pliers and cutter, a dangling charm, and hot glue.
A velvet choker with a ring
You’ll need a piece of velvet, scissors, glue and a large gold jump ring.
This black choker with two golden chains
For this runway inspired choker you will need patent faux leather (you can use an old belt), a gold chain, glue, pinch crimp cord ends, a clasp, 2 jump rings, jewelry pliers and scissors.
This velvet cord wrap choker
Here’s another stringy choker option. You will need velvet cord, superglue, atoothpick or small stick for spreading the glue, scissors and gold-colored tips (or silver if you prefer).
