DIY Hologram Projector For Your Smartphone

Bring images to life with this DIY hologram projector for your smartphone.

Our smartphones are compact supercomputers capable of amazing thingsand sometimes we seem to forget that.

Everyone knows that the thing in your pocket is capable of simple tasks such as sending text messages, making phone calls, watching videos and playing mobile games. The thing is, your smartphone is capable of so much more, as long as youve got the right equipment. Using certain light fixtures, you can remotely control the lighting in your home from anywhere in the world, while NFC-technology can help you make payments at stores across the United States without needing a physical debit or credit card.

Amazing right?

Well, did you know you could even turn your smartphone into a 3D hologram projector?!

What You Need:

- CD case

- x-acto knife or box cutter

- graph paper

- tape or super glue

- pen or marker

- scissors

- smartphone

Instructions:

1. Start off by grabbing your graph paper and drawing a rhombus shape on it, with the dimensions of 1 cm x 3.5 cm x 6 cm.

2. Cut out the rhombus with your scissors.

3. Next, break the edges off of the CD case (so that its completely flat) and trace the rhombus shape on it with a dark pen (or marker).

4. Use an X-acto knife (or box cutter, although I preferred the X-acto knife) to cut out the rhombus shape. Make sure to do it firmly but carefully, as the CD case can easily break and if that happens, youll have to cut out a brand new rhombus. After you cut out the first one, use it to cut out three more. You should end up with four rhombus shapes in total.

5. With the small 1cm side facing down, tape (or glue) the four rhombus shapes together like in the image below. Use a little bit a tape so that it doesnt get in the way of the projection later on. If you find yourself using too much tape, switch to super glue instead.
