Color blindness is a condition in which the quality of vision for color decreases. Someone who suffers from this disease will find it difficult to distinguish certain colors (partial color blindness) or even all colors (total color blindness). Color blindness is a lifelong disease. However, patients can train themselves to adapt to this condition, so that daily activities continue to run normally. The doctor will determine the appropriate treatment method and according to the type of color blindness suffered. Some people may not realize that they are color blind until they are rejected in a college entrance test or in a job.

Basically the eye has special nerve cells containing pigments that react to color and light. This cell has three pigments that function to detect red, green, and blue. In someone who is color blind, the pigment cell is damaged or not functioning, so the eye cannot detect certain colors or even all colors.

Cell damage occurs because of a gene abnormality that is passed from parent to child. In addition to inherited gene abnormalities, there are also several other factors that can cause cell damage. The cause of color blindness is usually hereditary factors. Color blindness consists of total color blindness and partial (partial) color blindness. Some people who experience color blindness may not feel disturbed and tend to not realize it.

Symptoms and type of color blindness

Color blindness is a condition where the sufferer has difficulty distinguishing certain colors (partial color blindness) or even the overall color (total color blindness). Symptoms that each patient feels can be different, depending on which pigment cells are damaged or not functioning. Symptoms of color blindness are basically divided into three types, namely red-green, yellow blue, and total. Each type has a different symptom character.

Some characters that can be experienced by red-green color blind sufferers:

yellow and green colors look red.

- orange, red, and yellow look like green.

- red looks like black.

- red looks brownish yellow, and green looks like a cream color.

This type also includes partial color blindness and has the character of:

- blue looks green, and it's hard to distinguish pink from yellow and red.

-blue looks like green, and yellow looks like gray or bright purple.

Total color blindness

Unlike the two types above, a person suffering from a type of total color blindness has difficulty distinguishing all colors. Even some sufferers can only see white, gray, and black.

Color blind diagnosis

Some people do not realize that they are color blind. That is because they have adapted to the situation. For example, because they know that the color of the leaf is green, then think and assume that the color green is the color they see.

Therefore, checking for color blindness is deemed necessary. In addition to knowing the condition of eye health, the results of the examination are also one of the requirements for a job that requires careful eyes to see colors, such as pilots, engineers, electrical engineering and doctors.
